Samsung Galaxy Tab Street Team

Love how on my way to work by Liverpool Street in London, I get approached by the Samsung Galaxy Tab street team.

Samsung is promoting its 7-inch Android tablet to Londoners by offering them a free two day 'tube-test'. Email your details and your tube station to galaxytab@tubetest.co.uk to get a chance to play with it for 48 hours.

What do you guys think- should more companies lend out their products to the general public ahead of the official launch?

View Quest Android Slate (5" & 8" Tablets)

Here's a sneak peak at the pre-production of the 5 & 8-inch Android Slate by View Quest.

What we know so far:

  • They run on Android 1.5
  • Have built-in speakers & a 3.5mm earphone jack
  • Feature a resistive touchscreen (cause Google 1.5 doesn't work with multi-touch)
  • There's NO phone capabilities on either device
  • The casing is real aluminum (making the 8-inch kinda heavy)

When I asked View Quest why they plan to ship the Android tablets with 1.5 rather than the more recent Froyo 2.2, a company spokesperson said that they have gone for the 'most stable operating system.' She added, "we understand that Google are coming out with a new OS that is solely for the Internet tablet market - in which case View Quest will obviously go with that."

The 5-inch model will come with 2GB of storage expandable by a mini-SD port. It will retail for £149. The 8-inch Android tablet will come in either 8GB or 16GB models for £199 and £249 respectively. Both tablets are set to be released in December - just in time for the holiday season.
